Washington Fish Market has received the 2020 AIA|DC Chapter Design Award for Urban Design/Master Planning. Gilmore Lighting Design was sought for the Washington Fish Market project during Construction Documentation to solve site lighting that was challenged by egress and safety issues as well as various points of entry and the festive, colorful aura of the historic location within the Wharf in Washington, DC. Using a concept of “connected sparkle,” featuring custom LED rings held aloft at the Fish Market, Gilmore provided a functional and artistic lighting solution, which has garnered attention within the architecture and architectural lighting communities. Gilmore congratulates StudioMB and the Washington Fish Market team for the 2020 Chapter Award, and appreciates the opportunity to work on such a fun and rewarding project. The project will be featured in the Fall Awards Issue of “ArchitectureDC” magazine.
